UIMA film series continues March 8 with 'Flaming Lips'

The University of Iowa Museum of Art film series, "Rites of Resistance: Gender, Performance Art, and Film in the '60s and '70s," continues at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, in Room E105 of the Adler Journalism Building.

The third film of six, "Flaming Lips: Feminist Performance," features scenes from the films Hand Movie, Volleyball (Foot Film), and Trio A all by Yvonne Rainer; Hey! Baby Chickey and Chicken on Foot by Nina Sobell; Touch Cinema and Hyperbulie by Valie Export; and Intercourse With... by Hannah Wilke.

The film series is offered in conjunction with UIMA's exhibition "Lil Picard and Counterculture New York," open Feb. 24 through May 27 in the Iowa Memorial Union's Black Box Theater. The series, a collaboration between the UIMA and UI Department of Cinema & Comparative Literature, was organized by UI graduate students David Oscar Harvey and Andrew Ritchey.

Some of the content being shown may be unsuitable for children; parental guidance is advised.
The series will resume after the University spring break with, "Yoko Ono," at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, in Room E105 of the Adler Journalism Building.
