CANCELLED First Friday: April 2020

  • 5:00 PM–7:00 PM

FilmScene on the Ped Mall
118 E. College St., Iowa City

To ensure the health and safety of our community, First Friday is cancelled.

Join us for Happy Hour + Art at the next Stanley Museum of Art First Friday reception at FilmScene on the Ped Mall!

Light pollution and space trash threaten our shared night sky. Artist Louise Fisher will transform the FilmScene Screening Room into a skyscape via a magic lantern installation. As the ancestor to the modern projector, magic lanterns have a rich history of entertaining and informing audiences with astronomical imagery. Without visual obstructions, Fisher’s slides allow a space to enjoy vast, rural skies and the transitional moments between day and night. This installation advocates for night as a natural resource that humans should protect.

Stanley First Fridays provide an ideal chance to usher in your weekend, enjoy the work of local artists, and mingle with other art enthusiasts. Events are free and open to all with complimentary popcorn and a cash bar.

Consider becoming a Stanley member! Courtesies include home delivery of the Stanley Museum of Art Magazine and a personalized Membership Card, which entitles you to free entry to the Figge Art Museum and reciprocal admission to other art museums around the country.

Cost: Free and open to all
