In celebration of What’s Your Sign, the UIMA’s exhibition of artworks related to signage on display at the Figge, curator Vero Rose Smith will speak about the history of signs and retail architecture. By exploring the iconography, typography, and materiality of retail signs as well as the cultural, financial, and geo-political forces that historically shaped storefront designs, Smith will explore how signs reflect broader visual cultures.
