First Friday: January 2020

  • 5:00 PM–7:00 PM

FilmScene on the Ped Mall
118 E. College St., Iowa City

Join us for Happy Hour + Art at the next Stanley Museum of Art First Friday reception at FilmScene on the Ped Mall! Stanley First Fridays provide an ideal chance to usher in your weekend, enjoy the work of local artists, and mingle with other art enthusiasts.

The work of local artist Kay Irelan will help us ring in the New Year.

"Nature's Dance" is part of a larger body of work Irelan created over the past two years. This exhibit reflects her appreciation of the natural world. Irelan often mixes media—incorporating collage and printmaking into her paintings, and sometimes including collected plant material as an element in her work.

Kay Irelan grew up in Texas, Iowa, and New Jersey. She received a BFA in painting and drawing from the University of Iowa and after graduation spent a couple years on the east coast before moving back to Iowa City. Irelan has lived in Iowa City since then and raised her two daughters here. She spent her career working as an illustrator and graphic artist for businesses and non-profits, including Westinghouse Learning Corporation, ACT, Profiles Corporation, West Publishing, Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Iowa Geological Survey, the Iowa DNR, and the City of Iowa City. Irelan is a past member of the Stanley Art Museum's Members Council. Works of her art are in private collections, as well as in the permanent collections at the Iowa City Public Library and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

First Fridays are free and open to all with complimentary popcorn and a cash bar.
