First Friday: March 2018

Party for art at the next University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA) First Friday reception at FilmScene! UIMA First Fridays provide an ideal chance to usher in your weekend, enjoy the work of local artists, and mingle with other art-enthusiasts.

The March First Friday event will present the visual art of Bao Pham. “Seedling” is a collection of drawings and paintings illustrating scenes of contemplation. The figures in these works are in between worlds, captured in that moment of being awake and dreaming, when the mind is free to wonder and create.

Bao Pham is a local artist who moved with his family to Iowa City from Vietnam when he was 11. He graduated from City High and went on to earn his BFA from the University of Iowa in 2007. He draws inspiration from the natural world and the surroundings found at his rural weekend retreat in Muscatine. Bao splits his time between working at Blick Art Materials, running his Etsy shop, and exhibiting his work throughout the country.

First Fridays are free and open to the public with complimentary popcorn and a cash bar.

Consider becoming a UIMA member! Courtesies include home delivery of the UIMA Magazine and a personalized Membership Card, which entitles you to free entry to the Figge Art Museum and reciprocal admission to other art museums around the country.

First Fridays for the 2017-2018 season are generously sponsored by John S. & Patricia C. Koza, H. Dee & Myrene R. Hoover, and John R. Menninger.
