Join us for Happy Hour + Art at the next Stanley Museum of Art First Friday reception at FilmScene! Stanley First Fridays provide an ideal chance to usher in your weekend, enjoy the work of local artists, and mingle with other art enthusiasts.
Our October First Friday features recent works by Iowa City painter Craig Carman.
In describing these works, Carman states, "I currently work primarily with acrylic paint. My paintings evolve through a process of trial and error. I rarely have a fully preconceived idea of what a painting is going to look like. I usually begin by laying down a field of color and go from there adding elements until I feel I have reached a conclusion. In the last three years I have focused on attempting to create a sense of depth through the interplay of overlapping lines and forms. I enjoy examining the simple effects of color against color and the way the juxtaposition of forms define space."
Craig Carman grew up in Iowa City and is a graduate of Cornell College. He is the General Manager of Blick Art Materials in Iowa City. Carman has exhibited his work widely in Eastern Iowa.
First Fridays are free and open to the public with complimentary popcorn and a cash bar.
