Party for art at the next University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA) First Friday reception on September 4, 5:00-7:00 p.m., at FilmScene! UIMA First Fridays provide an ideal chance to usher in your weekend, enjoy the “Masterwork of the Month," and mingle with other art-enthusiasts.

For our season opening event, we are delighted to present the premiere of "Jackson Pollock's Mural: The Story of a Modern Masterpiece." Emmy Award winning filmmaker Kevin Kelley, the film’s producer and director, proposed the film project because of his love of art and passion for the new University of Iowa Museum of Art. Kelley described the film as a “film about a journey – the journey of how one painting changed the course of modern American art over seventy years ago, and the painting’s journey around the world after a disastrous flood destroyed its home.”

Kirk Murray, Director of Photography, Dana Telsrow, Assistant Editor and Graphics Animator, along with Kelley and others from the University of Iowa Office of Strategic Communication worked on the film for over a year.

Free tickets for the event will be available in person at the FilmScene box office beginning one hour before the event (4:00 p.m.). Tickets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. The screening will begin at 5:30 p.m. There will be a reception immediately following the screening where guests may meet the filmmakers.

Consider becoming a UIMA member! Courtesies include home delivery of the UIMA magazine and a personalized Membership Card, which entitles you to free entry to the Figge Art Museum and reciprocal admission to other art museums around the country.

First Fridays for the 2015-2016 season are generously sponsored by FilmScene, H. Dee & Myrene Hoover, and John Menninger.
