Public Space One and the University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art are excited to invite YOU to participate in a community-wide public art project, The Iowa Arts Show Up Spectacular, as part of the For Freedoms 50 State Initiative. For Freedoms is a national platform that encourages civil discourse, engagement, and action among artists and arts organizations. The 50 State Initiative is deploying arts organizations across the country “public art installations, exhibitions and local community dialogues in order to inject nuanced, artistic thinking into public discourse” in the lead-up to midterm elections in November.

Part flash mob, part get-out-the-vote rally, and all spectacle!
The Spectacular will center around an interactive card stunt (not unlike those done at Kinnick Stadium during Hawkeye football games) that spells the phrase SHOW UP. The cards will be a special edition civic-engagement-themed screenprint designed by local artist Mrs Carla Bryant that each participant can keep to share or display after the event (each print also includes a QR code leading to a voter registration website). The event is open to all, no matter their political ideations or artistic inclinations, and will last no longer than an hour. We aim to create a festive (music & pom-poms!), welcoming event that encourages our community to embody the idea of of “showing up” in a simple, symbolic but impactful way.

Details about the event are here

We can't spell SHOW UP without YOU! Let us know you'll be there: RSVP here!

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in a program, please contact the University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art in advance at 335-1727.
