Hi, I'm Alicia Maiz Alonso, the new Communications and Marketing Assistant for the 2026-2027 academic year!

I'm a DMA candidate in violin performance, which might seem like an unusual path into museum marketing, but most of the work I've done up to this point has been in the performing arts world. I want to become an arts administrator, and I realized that if I only ever worked in performing arts, I'd be missing half the picture of how arts organizations actually function. The visual arts world runs on a lot of the same instincts: telling a compelling story, getting people through the door, making art feel like it belongs to everyone, but the tools and the audience are different enough that I knew I had more to learn.

In this role, I'll be writing blog posts, press releases, e-newsletters, and social media content for the museum. I'm most excited to see how a visual story gets told without music or a live performance to carry it, and how a single painting or an exhibition can pull someone in the same way a concert does. The instincts are the same; I'm just excited to point them at a new kind of art.
