Creating the Rauschenberg Activity Kits for the Stanley’s welcome desk was such a rewarding challenge and personal project. I wanted to channel the experimental energy of Robert Rauschenberg, who is known for his “Combines” that fused painting, sculpture, and everyday materials into a creative and hands-on activity.
I spent time exploring his techniques and figuring out how to make them accessible. The collage activity came straight from his “Combines,” and the “Monoprint Magic” kit was inspired by his love of printmaking. One of my favorite parts was designing the bright, playful instruction sheets that walk visitors through each step. It was a great way to bring together my design background and the museum’s educational goals.
Seeing the finished kits, complete with decorative scraps, paint pots, and the guides I created, has been incredibly satisfying. I love seeing them displayed in the lobby, and I hope they offer visitors a fun, creative way to connect with Rauschenberg’s belief that art and life are inseparable. Make sure to grab one on your next visit to the Stanley!
