Founded in 1976 by Susan Gosin and Bruce Wineberg, Dieu Donné champions experimentation and community building. This New York City–based studio has transformed contemporary paper arts in the United States and has long enjoyed deep ties to the University of Iowa’s Center for the Book. 

On view are new editions by Jiha Moon based on One An Other, her 2024 lobby installation at the Stanley, as well as recent gifts and select loans. A constellation of works celebrates the career of Paul Wong, artistic director of Dieu Donné from 1978 to 2017. Wong probes the origins and cultural histories of paper in China, reflecting on the ritual uses of this medium to cross thresholds between material and spiritual realms. Katharine DeLamater, a studio collaborator at Dieu Donné who received her MFA degree at the Center for the Book in 2020, assisted in the realization of Moon’s recent edition. DeLamater’s wall-mounted sculptures demonstrate the tensile properties of paper and its affinities with cloth.
