Join the UI Libraries, the Stanley Museum of Art, and the UI Museum of Natural History for the Iowa City Downtown District's Spring Gallery Walk! This annual free event invites everyone to take a self-guided tour of shops and galleries showcasing local art and exhibitions in downtown Iowa City.
Main Library Gallery: Visit Orchestrating Community: The Public Service of Iowa Conductor James Dixon to see photographs, letters, artifacts, and more from Special Collections and Archives and the Rita Benton Music Library. Sit in "the conductor's study" and listen to historic recordings from the University of Iowa Symphony Orchestra at your leisure while paging through some of the conductor's favorite scores. On the way to your next stop, grab some Libraries swag, ask questions about the exhibition, and take one of Dixon's gourmet recipes home to try. The gallery will be open late until 8 p.m.
Stanley Museum of Art: The Stanley welcomes visitors to a grand opening reception during the Spring Gallery Walk. Join them to celebrate the opening of two new exhibitions, The Black Gold Tapestry, and Flex: Masculinities in the Arts of Global Africa. Enjoy refreshments and music in the lobby, and head up to the galleries to experience the stunning new exhibitions on view. This program is free and open to all.
UI Museum of Natural History: Stop by the Museum of Natural History for their monthly Art & Write Night and get a stamp on your Gallery Walk card by visiting the Community Art Gallery in Iowa Hall featuring pieces made during past Art & Write Nights. Join them in the 3rd floor galleries, Bird and Mammal Halls, for exploration and creativity, too.
