Example story boxes, featuring collaged and drawn on imagery and patterns.

Local artist and art therapist Dana Keeton was back at the Stanley on March 12th this spring for Night at the Museum: Chill and Create! The lead-up to Spring Break is often pitted with stressful moments and midterm exams, not to mention unpredictable weather. To give students a small break before Break, we invited you to join Dana for another night of crafting and relaxing.

This month, Dana focused on "story boxes," an approach to managing stress and encouraging yourself, as well as taking in and savoring good moments and memories. Students made and/or decorated small boxes in which they could place physical reminders of things they loved or fun experiences. These boxes can be opened as needed to recall good times during bad, or make good moments all the sweeter by storing keepsakes. Thanks again to Dana for giving students the space to be themselves and remember how capable they are!

Night at the Museum will run one more time in the second week of April. On the 9th, we hope to host a small reception for our student employees here at the Stanley Museum of Art, featuring their original creative works, plus our usual light snacks and beverages.

As always, students should remember to get their Challenge Cards stamped! There's still time to get your third stamp before Finals Week, where you will have your choice of three different prizes. Keep an eye out for the final Night at the Museum for the semester, another Chill & Create session to help you destress the Friday before finals, and our three-day Study at the Stanley event during Finals Week! You got this, Hawkeyes!
