Meet Deanne Wortman

Tell us about yourself:

Originally from Minnesota, I am a longtime Iowa City artist with a BFA in printmaking, an MA in drawing and an MFA in intermedia arts, all from the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History. While attending the University of Iowa I was a city bus driver and worked in the Iowa City Public Library Children’s Services. I have been an Adjunct Professor of Art at the University of Iowa and was Director of the Virginia A. Myers NEXUS of Engineering and the Arts in the College of Engineering. In conjunction with the state arts programs, I have done many mural and storytelling projects in schools and public places across Iowa. Currently I am involved in Foiled Again!, a workshop series in hot-stamped foiling at the ArtiFactory in Iowa City.

What inspired you to become a Stanley docent?

Upon my last retirement and the onset of COVID I found that I missed my time working with the public. As a docent I can reengage with the public, draw on my arts background and share my experiences in the Art World again.

What are you looking forward to in the new building?

I am very excited to see original arts housed in a spectacular setting and to become involved in the art world once again!
