Meet Carol Ray (BA69)

After graduating from the University of Iowa, Ray moved to Missouri to teach. In the early 1970s artist and St. Louis native Richard Zane Smith first encountered ceramics in Ray's high school art class in University City, MO. She remembers Smith as an intuitive student and craftsman with a deep interest in the natural world.

Ray’s career as an art and art history teacher took her from St. Louis to the Twin Cities. Now retired and living near Iowa City, Ray is thrilled to see her former student’s work at the Stanley.
