The Stanley Museum of Art is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help create a welcoming experience for visitors of all ages. Donating your time and talents not only strengthens Iowa City's robust arts community, but also introduces you to new skills and new friends with a common passion for the arts.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Submit the general application 
  2. In compliance with university policy, a brief criminal background check will be initiated via Hire Right. (Please keep an eye on your email and spam filters as a link will arrive directly from the company.)
  3. Museum staff will contact you via email with scheduling instructions.

Be in the center of the celebration by volunteering during our opening weekend! The roles below will directly support a variety of activities throughout the museum.

Friday August 26 | 2:00pm - 9:30pm
Saturday August 27 | 9:30am - 9:30pm
Sunday August 28 | 11:30am - 6:30pm
(Scheduled outdoor activities will move indoors in the event of extreme weather.)

Event Setup (indoor/outdoor)
Where: Gibson Square Park, lobby

When: Friday afternoon; Saturday morning; Saturday @ 3:00pm; Sunday morning

What: Place chairs, tables, stanchions and signage to prepare spaces for the day's events and performances.

Greeter (indoor/outdoor)
Where: Main entrance plaza, lobby
When: All Weekend

What: Welcome visitors, provide program information and way-finding through the building, monitor attendees for safety and accessibility concerns. Keep the flow moving through lobby space to prevent backups. 

Information Guide (indoor/outdoor)
Where: Lobby, second and third levels

When: All Weekend

What: Create a friendly, welcoming environment and assist in creating a unique and customized visitor experience. Support Gallery Hosts by greeting visitors and providing them with information regarding works on view and wayfinding.

Refreshment Stations (indoor/outdoor)
Where: Gibson Square Park and lobby

When: Friday 4:00pm - 9:00pm; Saturday 9:30am - noon; Saturday noon-9:00pm; Sunday 11:30am - 5:00pm

What: Refill beverage containers, operate popcorn machine and serve to guests, stock items as needed. All refreshments complimentary to guests; no cash handling required. 

Art Making Tables Support (outdoor)
Where: Gibson Square Park

When: All Weekend

What: Embrace your creativity by guiding visitors of all ages through interactive art making activities alongside Stanley Campus Council members.

Event Teardown (indoor/outdoor)
Where: Gibson Square Park, lobby

When: Friday 8:30pm - 9:30pm; Saturday 5:30-6:30pm; Saturday 8:30-9:30pm; Sunday 5:30pm - 6:30pm

What: Place chairs, tables, stanchions and signage indoors for the evening.

Information Guide
Where: Lobby, second and third levels
When: Tuesday through Sunday mornings and afternoons, Thursday evenings.
What: Create a friendly, welcoming environment and assist in creating a unique and customized visitor experience. Support Gallery Hosts by greeting visitors and providing them with information regarding exhibitions, programs, and events.

Programming & Special Event Greeter
Where: Throughout the museum
When: Afternoons and evenings, as needed.
What: Welcome attendees, provide program information and way-finding through the building, monitor attendees for safety and accessibility concerns.

Programming & Special Event Support
Where: Throughout the museum
When: Afternoons and evenings, as needed.
What: Setup event spaces, place décor, assist with coat check, use audiovisual equipment, teardown event spaces.

Administrative
Where: Behind the scenes
When: Weekday mornings and afternoons, as needed.
What: On occasion, the museum needs help with organizing, filing, data entry, phone calling or other office related tasks.
