A photo of six representatives from the student organization Hawk the Vote, posing at their table, set up in the Stanley Museum of Art lobby during the event Night at the Museum: The Art of Voting.

For the first installment of our Night at the Museum series, we hosted a voter registration event for the second year in a row! Ahead of National Voter Registration Day on September 17th, this Night at the Museum on the 12th brought in so many students who were able to get registered to vote!

We collaborated again with Hawk the Vote, a student organization who works with students, teaching them about civic engagement and voter registration.

Various printed materials lay atop a blue gingham tablecloth to dry: tote bags, pencil cases, shirts, and paper prints.

Along with our voter registration table, we also had a block printing station where students were able to grab a tote bag, pencil bag, fabric patch (or use their own fabric goods!), and get a voting-related image printed onto it!

We made these block prints choosing designs from our digital archive, or making our own inspired by the collection, reversing them, and carving the design into a linoleum block. Two prints featured works you may have seen in the galleries: Glory, a bust of Glory Van Scott by Elizabeth Catlett, and one panel from Max Beckmann’s Karneval triptych.

A photo of an inked up block inspired by Beckmann's triptych 'Karneval," featuring two figures, one riding piggyback on another, with a speech bubble coming off of both of them that says "vote" in cursive letters.

Students were able to grab a snack and listen to music, or leave their prints to dry while exploring the galleries. They were also able to grab a Stanley Student Challenge card (or get theirs stamped again if they already had one!), which they can get stamped at future events and receive a custom Stanley Baggu at the end of the semester.
